In 2019, Virginia was ranked the worst state in the country to be a worker. The pandemic has made this need even more acute. Corporations continue to profit while denying their employees basic safety protections. Black and Latino workers have been put at particularly high risk. Labor laws shouldn’t be so tilted to the advantage of corporations over people. Virginians need the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) for their safety and to get fair compensation. The PRO Act would provide protections for Virginia workers coming together and fighting for better work conditions by: 1. Preventing employers from interfering with their employees’ organizing efforts 2. Making it easier to join unions 3. Protecting workers from retaliation from bosses 4. Protecting immigrant workers from exploitation 5. Ensuring bosses bargain in good faith for contracts 6. Protecting the free speech of protesting workers 7. Ending right-to-work laws And More But there’s a problem: Mark Warner. He’s the wealthiest person in Congress, and he hasn’t publicly supported the PRO Act. He is one of just a few Democrats in Congress standing between you and the power to improve your job and livelihood. With more power for workers, we’d also be able to fight for the big changes we need like a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and College for All.
