On April 10th, three members of the Santa Clarita City Council passed a motion to agendize a discussion and vote to issue a resolution in opposition to SB 54, the California Values Act, which designates California as a "Sanctuary State". Available data supports the assertion that sanctuary cities are safer cities. Counties designated by ICE as sanctuary counties actually experience less crime per every 10,000 people. It only takes a single Google search to locate multiple studies that show undocumented immigrants are actually less likely to commit crime than legal residents. This decision by the council to initiate the process of opposing the California Values Act is nothing but a political stunt to appease far-right extremists, racists, and white supremacists.
