While the president has talked about holding pharmaceutical companies accountable, he has then turned around and appointed a pharmaceutical executive as his Secretary of Health and Human Services and provided a windfall in tax breaks to drug companies―tax breaks that have lined the pockets of wealthy shareholders and executives and not trickled down to the American people. A recent report from U.S. Senator Cory Booker has revealed that the 10 largest U.S.-headquartered pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Eli Lilly and others are using billions of dollars in tax breaks on stock buybacks to boost the stock price for shareholders―overwhelmingly benefiting wealthy individuals. Not a single penny of these billions of dollars in tax breaks are being passed along to the American people in the form of reduced drug prices. That’s unacceptable. Stand with us and demand immediate action by Congress to address the national crisis of skyrocketing drug prices. The president’s empty rhetoric is not enough.
