UNICEF Child Friendly Cities

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/groups/default_facebook_images/000/116/471/original/2024_Website_-_Green_Party_Favicon.png?1738659091</thumbnail_url>

We call on Cheltenham Borough Council to commit to Cheltenham becoming a UNICEF Child Friendly City. By adopting this UNICEF scheme, already being trialled in progressive councils in the UK, the council will work towards delivery of more play space, safer roads, cleaner and greener neighbourhoods, cycle infrastructure, better education, and child safety – all areas which will benefit families and communities in our town. UNICEF’s child rights-based approach to public services has consultation with children and young people at its core. We need young people involved and democratically engaged from start to finish. Specifically we call on the Council to: - Agree a timetable for signing up to the UNICEF programme and begin the process to become a recognised Child Friendly city/community. - To develop a consultation strategy which includes the principles of young people inclusion as stated above. - To implement/ improve the principles of the UNICEF status as soon as possible The Green Party's Cheltenham councillors Wendy Flynn and Tabi Joy have proposed the Council adopt this measure but so far the Liberal Democrats have refused to back it. Help us improve our town by making your voice heard! Cheltenham Green Party
