West Covina City Council — Vote NO on the Proposed 24/7 Amazon Warehouse!

On October 19th, West Covina City Council will vote on an Amazon warehouse proposed for 1211 E. Badillo Street. The proposed warehouse is before City Council because Amazon will need the current site RE-ZONED, as it most recently was home to Faith Church. West Covina residents deserve better than what Amazon has in store for our community! If you didn't hear about this project or its problems, you are NOT alone — Amazon's developer did the bare minimum by sending public notices to residents within 300 feet. Residents beyond 300 feet will be impacted by Amazon's unsafe delivery vans and heavy traffic and West Covina residents deserve better than the bare minimum! Neighbors of the West Covina community demand a NO vote from our elected officials. Right now, the City Council is making its decisions based on a faulty traffic study that undercounts the number of vehicles that will be added to our streets. Residents' serious concerns about safety and congestion in our neighborhoods are thereby distorted as "insignificant." Even so, the current projected count is 914 daily trucks, delivery vans, and passenger vehicles coming in and out of the 24/7 operation. To make matters worse, there is no meaningful enforcement measure in place if Amazon goes over these numbers. West Covina residents do NOT want Amazon's typical high rates of injury, high rates of turnover, and low pay coming into our community. West Covina City Council could do more to support good, family-sustaining middle-class jobs, but Amazon's proposed facility does not accomplish this goal. The proposed facility will not create sales tax revenue, and Amazon's developer agreed to provide West Covina only $4 million dollars in so-called "community benefits" over the next 20 years. WEST COVINA CITY COUNCIL — DO NOT LET AMAZON RUN OUR COMMUNITY OVER. VOTE NO ON OCTOBER 19th!
