The WTA has been in negotiations with the school committee for months with limited progress. The WTA is hoping for a cost of living adjustment that minimally keeps up with inflation. Recent school years have been incredibly challenging for both students and staff. We already compensate our educators below the market rate for districts around us. We must avoid cutting the effective salaries of our educators. With millions in federal stimulus monies in Winthrop, we should be investing those funds into our schools and the educators who help serve the community everyday. Student learning and staff development are of utmost importance to WTA members. We need community support to encourage School Committee members to listen to the voices of educators who are in the classrooms with your children on a daily basis.
