She is the first Black woman ever to serve on the commission and has worked tirelessly both in her government position and as a volunteer on numerous boards to improve people's lives. She is currently running for Alabama State Auditor. A social hour begins at 5:30 with a jazz guitarist and some appetizers with charcuterie boards. A dinner buffet will be served starting at 6:30. The two scholarship winners will read their essays, and Commissioner Violet Edwards will deliver her keynote address.
