A Great Contract for Educators = Great Schools for Westford Families

Dear Valued Community Member,
The Westford Education Association humbly asks for your support in our current negotiations with the Westford School Committee. WEA has started good faith negotiations with the school committee for Teachers and Education Support Professionals (ESPs).
WEA believes our school community deserves a Living Wage for our ESPs, a cost of living adjustment for teachers that minimally keeps up with inflation, and better educator recruitment and retention.
Recent school years have been incredibly challenging for both students and staff. We already compensate our educators below the market rate for districts around us. We must avoid cutting the effective salaries of our educators. With millions in American Recovery Act federal stimulus monies and Student Opportunity Act state funding in Westford, and millions more in the Town Budget, we should be investing those funds into our schools and the educators who help serve the community everyday.
Student learning and staff development are of utmost importance to WEA members. We need community support to encourage School Committee members to listen to the voices of educators who are in the classrooms with your children on a daily basis. We believe that the school committee and WEA share a common interest in creating and developing a school system based on excellence. With the federal and state stimulus monies from the American Recovery Act and the Student Opportunity Act, we have a major opportunity to improve our schools and support our educators.
We should prepare for Westford's future by making the necessary investments into the educators who serve our families each day.
