Action needed to avoid a November meltdown

To protect voting rights and public health in our general election, we're calling on you to immediately take the following steps:
- Allow anyone to vote by mail
- Launch a statewide poll worker recruitment campaign
- Require election workers to wear masks
- Require Texans who refuse to wear masks to vote curbside
- Expand capacity for curbside voting capacity
- Encourage counties to use drive-thru voting centers
- Conduct a well-funded public information campaign explaining pandemic procedures
- Provide necessary resources to counties to implement all of the above
We saw a number of extremely troubling election-related issues during our March and July elections [1], just a few of which included election worker shortages, poll site closures, technology issues, mail ballots not being received and confusion about new pandemic-related procedures.
Any or all of those problems could potentially lead to an election meltdown in November -- unless Secretary of State Hughs -- the chief election officer for Texas -- takes action now.
To avoid a November meltdown, we’re calling on Secretary Hughs to:
Allow anyone to vote by mail
Launch a statewide poll worker recruitment campaign
Require election workers to wear masks
Require Texans who refuse to wear masks to vote curbside
Expand capacity for curbside voting capacity
Encourage counties to use drive-thru voting centers
Conduct a well-funded public information campaign explaining pandemic procedures
Provide necessary resources to counties to implement all of the above
It’s imperative Secretary Hughs hears from as many Texans as possible so she knows we’ll be holding her accountable for how our elections go in November.
If action is taken soon, we CAN avoid a November meltdown.
