Add your name: America must stand with refugees today

Our Representatives in Washington

From the earliest days of our history, America has championed the rights of immigrants and those fleeing violence and persecution to find safety on our shores. It is the common thread in our shared identity and values.

Right now, the global crisis resulting from the Trump Administration's executive order is putting our commitment to those values to the test. We must not fail. We are better than this. And we must speak up now.

We urge our legislators in Congress to speak out unequivocally in support of refugee families.

I’m joining CARE Action advocates in calling on you to continue to strengthen our country’s commitment to better assist, protect and empower refugees and displaced families who are fleeing their homes in search of safety.

We should provide a robust appropriation for humanitarian and refugee assistance, especially for programs dedicated to supporting women and girls.

We must continue to resettle the most vulnerable individuals based solely on need, and push the Administration to increase the number of refugees resettled in the U.S. each year. These programs should use the very effective, current screening standards and focus on the most vulnerable who are often women, children, elderly and disabled.

Finally, we as a nation must lift up the voices of refugees, especially women and girls, and empower them to be part of the solution, rather than feared and vilified.

Thank you for your leadership.
