As we take in what’s happening in California with the devastating fires, after more and more climate disasters around the globe, we are so deeply upset. We believe you are too.

It’s out of sadness for all this suffering that we’re writing to you with prayerful concern, and hope, about your intentions for a tremendously important matter.

We believe in the power of bold decision-making for the climate to secure a brighter future for working families and our children.

The Paris Agreement, alongside the transformational projects facilitated by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), represent historic opportunities to achieve these goals in a way that creates jobs and greater prosperity for generations to come.

You are starting to dismantle these climate change commitments while seeking subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. This is dead wrong. Reverse course, now!

Investing in clean energy and climate resilience creates local jobs for workers who have borne the brunt of globalization’s injustices – the very people you rightly champion. It uplifts local communities that have been knocked down by devastating disasters - more and more of them caused by climate change. It provides opportunities for those too often left behind.

This path illustrates strength and leadership. It shows we can address the emergency of climate change while fostering growth and prosperity. It represents a pathway of compassion, love and justice.

Mr. President: Honor these principles. Our beautiful faiths call for nothing less.
