Atlanta Needs A City Abortion Fund!

Mayor Andre Dickens and the Atlanta City Council

The Amplify Georgia Collaborative invites you to sign the petition below to ask for a city abortion fund in Atlanta.

On the evening of May 2, Politico shared a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court about the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. The leaked document shows that the Supreme Court is ready to ignore decades of precedent and overturn Roe v. Wade — although this is outrageous, we’ve been planning for a situation like this.

No court will keep us from accessing abortion care. We are pissed off and unstoppable. Access to abortion care will be determined at the local level, so we must turn attention to local organizing, policy change, and abortion funding.

The city of Atlanta is a hub for abortion access across the South, and we think it's time the Atlanta City Council sets up an abortion fund in partnership with Access Reproductive Care-Southeast to help our most vulnerable neighbors pay for life-saving healthcare.

In the wake of the recently leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court about the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, protecting and expanding abortion access at the local level is more critical than ever.

Atlanta is a healthcare hub and people travel here from across the South to get access to abortion care from our local clinics. Abortion care is already very costly and inaccessible to those who need it the most and if the Supreme Court overturns Roe, vulnerable and marginalized Atlantans will suffer the most.

I thank the City Council for passing a resolution that affirms “the fundamental right to abortion” earlier this year. I hope you will take your support for abortion access one step further by allocating funds to Atlantans who may need support to travel out of state to access abortion in the future.

I believe in the power of local government to defend our right to bodily autonomy and I support the creation of a city abortion fund that would partner with Access Reproductive Care-Southeast to pay for travel and medical expenses for Atlantans seeking abortion care.
