BECOME A GRASSROOTS CO-SIGNER OF THE WALL STREET SALES TAX

All Members of Congress

We need major new investments that provide critical services for working families and create millions of good-paying jobs. The way to get there is by requiring the rich and corporations to pay their fair share of taxes.

Bills have been introduced this year by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), and by Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), that could raise $777 billion to up to $2.2 trillion over ten years by taxing trades on Wall Street at a fraction of a percent. At most it’s just $5 on every $1,000 in stocks purchased.

Putting a sales tax on stock, bond, and derivative trading would rein-in Wall Street speculation and high-frequency trading, which creates volatility in the market and endangers the retirement savings of millions of Americans. It could also provide the revenue necessary to invest in our country’s future, whether it’s $2 trillion toward infrastructure or $700 billion toward debt-free college.

Tell Congress to pass a Wall Street Sales Tax to invest in our country’s future and create an economy that works for all of us, paid for by the millionaires and billionaires on Wall Street.

The American people pay our fair share in taxes on the goods and services we purchase. But on Wall Street, wealthy traders buy and sell millions of shares in an instant without paying a dime in taxes on those trades. We call on Congress to pass a Wall Street Sales Tax (such as the Inclusive Prosperity Act of 2019 or the Wall Street Tax Act of 2019) to implement a tiny tax on Wall Street speculation. Over a decade it could raise between $777 billion and $2.2 trillion, depending on the rate, which could be invested in critical services for working families and create millions of good-paying jobs.
