Biden, Create Humanitarian Parole Program for Sudan and Protect Thousands Fleeing War

President Biden

It has been more than one year since the war in Sudan broke out and over half the population, 25 million people, need urgent humanitarian assistance. Organizations on the ground are doing all they can to meet the needs of the people of Sudan, but the crisis is too large. It is time for the Biden administration to step up and provide solutions.

African Communities Together is calling on President Biden to create a humanitarian parole program for Sudan, similar to what he created for Ukraine. Humanitarian parole is a tool that allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to permit an individual or a certain group of people to legally enter the U.S. for urgent humanitarian reasons. The Biden administration has recently used its authority to create humanitarian parole programs for Afghanistan, Ukraine, Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua.

With humanitarian parole, Sudanese Americans and members of the broader public would be able to sponsor those who are urgently looking for ways to escape the war in Sudan.

Over 5.7 million people have been displaced in Sudan and over 25 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance. The people of Sudan cannot wait any longer for us to act.

As Sudanese diaspora and concerned individuals in the U.S., we cannot continue to stand by and watch families be torn apart and a nation suffer in silence.

Therefore, we implore you to administer humanitarian parole for Sudan and provide protection and relief to Sudanese stuck in the middle of this crisis.
