Call on MP and Secretary of Justice David Lammy to intervene and protect the hunger strikers

David Lammy

Eight prisoners currently held on remand for alleged actions in solidarity with Palestine have been on a hunger strike which began on 2nd November. Their names are Amu Gib, Qesser Zuhrah, Heba Muraisi, Jon Cink, T Hoxha, Kamran Ahmed, Lewie Chiaramello and Umer Khalid.

The hunger strike is now entering its second month. Two of the prisoners, Kamran and T, have been hospitalised so far. During their hospitalisations, they were prevented from contacting their next of kin and legal team, which is a breach of their fundamental rights.

The hunger strikers have five demands: a right to a fair trial, immediate bail while awaiting trial, ending prison censorship, deproscription, and asking the government cuts ties with arms manufacturers complicit in the genocide in Palestine. You can read a full list of demands from the hunger strikers and all updates here: https://prisonersforpalestine.org/

The government has remained entirely silent. Please help us hold them to account.

We, the undersigned, call on David Lammy to immediately respond to the ongoing hunger strikes of eight prisoners held on remand for alleged actions in solidarity with Palestine. Their names are Amu Gib, Qesser Zuhrah, Heba Muraisi, Jon Cink, T Hoxha, Kamran Ahmed, Umer Khalid and Lewie Chiaramello. Qesser is a former Tottenham resident and thus a former constituent of David Lammy.

The hunger strike began on 2nd November and is now entering its second month.

Two of the prisoners, Kamran and T, have been hospitalised so far. During their hospitalisations, they were initially prevented from contacting their next of kin and legal team, which is a breach of their fundamental rights.

We support all of the hunger striking prisoners’ demands. We call on David Lammy to order an immediate review of all remand and bail decisions in these cases, and to ensure the prisoners' humane detention conditions and their right to a fair trial. We express grave concern for their rapidly deteriorating health and their reported mistreatment in prison.

As Secretary of State for Justice, David Lammy bears responsibility for ensuring these prisoners' safety and upholding their rights. We demand that he act without delay.
