Call Congressional Leadership and demand they include a moratorium on utility shutoffs in the next stimulus bill.

Congressional leadership

Congress has returned to Washington D.C. to start negotiations for the CARES2 package, the second stimulus to provide coronavirus relief to our communities across the country. At the same time, families are struggling with utility shut-offs -- losing basic and essential services such as power, water, and internet service due to unaffordable bills.

Millions of people have lost jobs and wages, and the economic impacts of coronavirus will continue to hit people hard in the months to come. People cannot safely stay at home without electricity, water, or internet. We need Congress to stand up for usand ensure that a moratorium, a temporary ban on utility shutoffs, as well as long-term funding for these vital services are included in the next stimulus.

Join us for a National Day of Action and demand Congressional Leadership include a moratorium on utility shutoffs and federal funding for long-term solutions in the next federal stimulus package.

First, dial the following numbers:

Minority Leader Schumer (202) 224-6542

Speaker Pelosi (202) 255-4965

Majority Leader McConnell (202) 224-2541

Hello, my name is _________. I’m calling to ask you to stand up for people across our country and ensure that a utility shutoff moratorium for our power, water, and broadband systems are included in the next CARES2 package.

Can I leave a message with you?

In order to stand with and provide relief for the millions of people in this country impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, I urge you to support the calls led by Senator Merkley, Rep. Lawrence, Rep. Dingell, and over 100 additional legislators to guarantee a national moratorium on all utility shutoffs and ensure that there are long-term federal funding solutions available for our essential utilities during and following this pandemic.

Thank you,
