Cancel Rent Cancel Mortgage Payments

Governor Gavin Newsom

Governor Gavin Newsom can protect housing for millions of Californians until this crisis lifts by

  1. using his authority to cancel rent and mortgage payments,
  2. provide assistance for struggling small property owners, and
  3. making corporate landlords cover our monthly housing costs.

While the “shelter in place” order will end, the crisis for low-income and working families will not!

Even before the crisis, most of us were living paycheck to paycheck. With the new loss of income, there is no way for most Californians to pay back rent or back mortgage payments that went unpaid during the crisis. Meanwhile, corporate landlords are sitting on at least $470 billion in handouts and billions more in income. They can afford to #CancelRent, mortgages, and utilities for the duration of the pandemic.

We call on Governor Newsom to issue an order to cancel rent and mortgage payments, create a relief fund for small property owners, and make the billionaire real-estate investors pay during this extreme crisis!
