We call on President Joe Biden to release the memo outlining the President’s legal authority to cancel student debt by executive action.

Recently released documents show a memo exists, and the White House has failed to release it. In fact, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said in April that the memo would be released in a matter of “weeks.” Now, with less than ninety days until student loan repayments resume, millions of Americans are facing a financial cliff and questioning if the President could have done more to help.

The time has come to release the memo and cancel student debt.
Broad-based student debt cancellation is the best solution to provide significant long-term relief, boost the economy, and address racial disparities. Student loan relief is critical to those who lost their jobs, lost loved ones, or faced financial hardships during the pandemic.
