Most Californians, including elected leaders like yourself, work with the security of knowing that when we retire we will, at minimum, receive Social Security and Medicare benefits.

But that is not the case for California home care providers who provide care for their spouse or their child through the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program. In fact, despite working an incredibly tough job that saves the state money, these caregivers work without any kind of retirement security OR access to unemployment benefits.

It’s time to make a change. Assembly Bill 1930 takes the first step to ensure that no person who has worked hard to care for our state’s seniors or people with disabilities is left in the cold with no safety net.

The legislature agrees that the time is now to begin making this change. AB 1930 was passed by both houses with tremendous, bipartisan support.

Now we urge Governor Brown to do what’s right and fair, and sign it into law.
