To the City and County of Broomfield,

We, the residents and voters of Broomfield, are actively engaged and have expressed significant health and safety concerns regarding oil and gas development in our community. As such, we have been actively pursuing measures that would better protect Broomfield residents including:

  • Engagement with the Broomfield City Council through hundreds (if not
thousands) of email communications, attending Council Meetings (with hundreds showing up), and speaking about health and safety concerns during Citizens’ Comments.

  • Passing Ballot Measure 301 by a large majority which amended the Broomfield City Charter to require Broomfield to “condition oil and gas development permits to require oil and gas development to only occur in a manner that does not adversely impact the health, safety, and welfare of Broomfield’s residents.”

We, the undersigned, request that the City of Broomfield uphold Charter Amendment 301 to ensure oil and gas development that does not adversely impact the health, safety, and welfare of Broomfield’s residents. As such, we request that Broomfield take the following steps:

  • Do not adopt Ordinance No. 2067 (which would amend the Municipal Code concerning oil and gas regulations) until the proposed regulations meet the condition of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of Broomfield residents and environment as intended by the passage of Question 301.

  • Do not move forward on approving the Comprehensive Drilling Plan or any new oil and gas permits until they meet the condition of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of Broomfield Residents and Environment as intended by the passage of Question 301.

The Health, Safety, Welfare and Environment of Broomfield and its residents are the City's top priorities. It is essential that the City uphold the Charter as amended by Broomfield voters.
