Connecticut Voters Call on the DCCC to Support Only Pro-Choice Candidates

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

On July 31 news broke that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Democratic Party’s campaign arm in the House, will financially support candidates who oppose abortion rights. NARAL Pro-Choice America, along with other progressive groups responded to this pronouncement with a Statement of Principals (read full text here).

"As progressives, we stand united in the belief that a woman’s autonomy over her own body is not a secondary issue or a "social issue," but rather a human right and a necessity in order to attain and preserve economic security in her life."

The DCCC continues to defend their position, jeopardizing women's health for perceived political gain. Late last week, NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, the Women's March CT, and other progressive groups stood with democratic leaders in Connecticut to denounce the DCCC position. Now, we call on you to do the same.

Sign this petition calling on the DCCC to reverse their position and refuse funding to candidates who oppose abortion.

We hope that as a signatory of this petition you will also refrain from donating to the DCCC. Only donate directly to candidate campaigns (supporting candidates who value full access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion) until the DCCC stands firm on pro-choice values.

We write from Connecticut, with the support of many senior Democratic politicians in our state, to request that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee only fund candidates who respect the importance of reproductive rights and abortion access.

We understand that candidates may have differing views on abortion as individuals, but these should never be imposed on others as a matter of faith over evidence-based policy. When access to reproductive health is limited, people of color and low income individuals and families suffer as a direct consequence.

This is not a fringe issue, but is a fundamental element of human rights and economic equality. We urge you to only support these elementary rights through the candidates you finance.
