CUPE 1328 members deserve respect

Toronto Catholic District School Board Trustees

There is a crisis in Ontario public education.

Underfunding and understaffing plague the TCDSB. Everyday we are short-staffed, students’ needs are going unmet, and incidents of violence have skyrocketed. Many 1328 members have experienced extreme cases of physical violence and harassment at the workplace, leading to physical harm and extended periods of leave.

Our students’ learning environments are frequently disrupted by violent incidents, sometimes on a daily basis, which has created an environment that is far from conducive to providing the highest quality of education.

Education workers across the TCDSB are at a breaking point. Education workers deserve better and our students deserve better.

Dear TCDSB trustees,

I’m writing to you as a TCDSB education worker and a member of CUPE 1328.
There is a crisis in underfunding and understaffing in our school board. Everyday we are short-staffed, students’ needs are going unmet, and incidents of violence have skyrocketed.

Our students’ learning environments are frequently disrupted by violent incidents, sometimes on a daily basis, which has created an environment that is far from conducive to providing the highest quality of education.

Education workers across the TCDSB are at a breaking point. Education workers deserve better and our students deserve better!

We’re calling on the TCDSB to implement the following demands today!
• Adequate and effective staffing across the TCDSB
• An adequate funding formula to meet the needs of staff and students in schools
• Stop cuts to services
• Safe workplaces as per the OHSA
• Safe learning environments for students under the Education Act
• Appropriate and effective training, education and programming for workers and the students they support
• Eliminating incidences of violence and disruption in our schools

CUPE 1328 is committed to continuing the conversation in addressing these issues.
