Make walking & cycling to Sydenham Metro safe for everyone
Inner West Council, Transport for NSW
Sydenham's new metro station is a hit. More people than ever are walking and cycling there for the first and last leg of their journey - but the roads around it haven't caught up.
We're asking Inner West Council and the NSW Government to save the footpath for pedestrians, and make cycling to Sydenham safe, easy and less stressful for everyone.
Sign our petition if you:
- Cycle to Sydenham Station, or want to, but don't feel safe
- Have noticed how much busier the station and its surrounds have become, with busy shared paths that aren't great for anyone
- Believe the cost of living and fuel crisis makes safe cycling infrastructure more urgent, not less
- Think a world-class metro station deserves safe access for everyone - whether they're walking, cycling, catching a bus, or arriving by car

We are commuters and community members who love Sydenham Station and want more people to be able to get there safely and comfortably by bike or foot.
Since the metro opened, cycling to Sydenham for first and last mile trips has surged. This is exactly the behaviour that reduces congestion, cuts emissions, and helps households manage the rising cost of fuel.
But the roads and paths around the station have not kept pace with this demand and the result is that cycling to Sydenham can be stressful, and in places genuinely dangerous.
We are calling on you to urgently deliver:
1) Safe, separated cycling infrastructure along the key corridors approaching Sydenham Station
2) Upgraded crossings that prioritise people walking and cycling
3) Better street design to eliminate conflict between pedestrians and cyclists
Sydenham Metro is already a win for our community. Making it safely accessible by bike is the logical next step and one that will benefit riders, pedestrians, and the broader community.
We love this station. Help us love the ride there too.
