Tell Dark Horse leadership to voluntarily recognize its union!
Jay Komas and Dark Horse leadership
We, the workers of Dark Horse Media, have come together to form one union, Dark Horse Workers United (DHWU), with our parent union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA). In solidarity we stand together to contend for our rights as workers, vote as a democratic body, and improve our material conditions. With an overwhelming supermajority support that we have found within our fellow workers, we consider it to be in our, and in the company’s, best interest to unionize.
We are asking interim CEO Jay Komas and Dark Horse leadership to voluntarily recognize our union by June 3, 2026. By voluntarily recognizing the union, leadership would be demonstrating support and respect for workers’ rights, choosing to not engage in union-busting, and allowing for a more streamlined process for beginning negotiations.
Add your name to this petition to tell Dark Horse leadership to take the high road and voluntarily recognize our union!

Why are we unionizing?
The looming uncertainty from recent layoffs, wage/hiring freeze, change in leadership power, TFAW’s closure, emergence of artificial intelligence, and return-to-office policies (despite their economic impact on employees) have fueled us to organize and collectively address our concerns. In light of founder Mike Richardson’s recent departure from and subsequent changes to the company, we strive to uphold Dark Horse’s 40-year legacy of publishing creator-owned comics. These are just a few examples of why we are seeking a democratic workplace.
As a union, we aim to foster the following values at Dark Horse:
Democracy: Our voices should be heard and valued, with fair representation.
Diversity: Our work environment and publication titles should foster an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels respected.
Equity: We must collectively address each other’s individual needs, and work to reduce systemic inequality.
Solidarity: We are strongest together. We stand together.
Transparency: We are committed to safety and approachability in our work environment through clear communication and fellowship.
Our goals are as follows:
Improve job security, wages, and benefits by advocating and determining strategies for the improvement of the material needs of our workers.
Create a transparent and equitable workplace culture where all teams feel comfortable communicating with each other, and vital information is shared company-wide.
Acquire a seat at the table when critical decisions are made that will affect all stakeholders, including the workforce.
You can support the members of DHWU by demanding management take the high road and voluntarily recognize the union.
