No Retaliation at the Port of Los Angeles!

Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners and Port Executive Director

California Cartage is a major warehouse on City of Los Angeles property where hundreds of workers have faced wage theft, health and safety violations leading to citations by Cal/OSHA, and are now facing retaliation for organizing.

On April 30, California Cartage is terminating all employees of staffing agency AMR/SSI- including dozens of workers who have actively and publicly spoken up for their rights, demanded better wages and working conditions, and gone on strike.  We believe that this termination is unjust, and also violates the City of Los Angeles Service Contractor Worker Retention Policy and City Living Wage Ordinance.

We ask that the Port of Los Angeles enforce the law and not allow California Cartage to make illegal terminations on Port property!

California Cartage operates a warehouse at the Port of Los Angeles that employs hundreds of workers, many through staffing agencies at or close to minimum wage. Many of these workers have been working at this warehouse for over a year, and as such are covered by the City of Los Angeles Service Contractor Worker Retention Policy.

On April 4, 2016, workers were told that, as of May 1, Cal Cartage is terminating the employment of all employees of staffing agency AMR/SSI- including dozens of workers who have actively and publicly spoken up for their rights, demanded better wages and working conditions, and gone on strike. This termination is unjust, and also represents retaliation against workers who made a living wage complaint, which violates the City Living Wage Ordinance.

We ask that the City of Los Angeles enforce the law and not allow illegal firings on the part of California Cartage on its property!
