Demand Equal Pay for Equal Work

Pennsylvania's Congressional Delegation

The Wage Gap that still exists in our country costs women workers millions of dollars throughout her lifetime. The labor movement exists as one of the largest grassroots movements for women's rights in history, fighting for economic rights and freedom for women to make a living with dignity and respect. Society still has a long way to go.

On the whole, our sisters are STILL only making an average of 80% of their male counterparts wages.

The pay gap is even larger for sisters of color, who can make as little as 54 cents for every dollar.

It takes our African-American sisters an additional 7 months to make the yearly wages of a white man.

Women make up 48% of the workforce and are the primary breadwinners in more than 40% of families.

Working people in unions are dedicated to fair schedules, fair wages, access to affordable health care and child care, and paid leave for all working families and women who are disproportionately affected.

Employers need to recognize the time all working families need to care for their loved ones. We need laws that acknowledge the challenges that working families face.

Pennsylvania's working people demand that Congress take action to end gender discrimination. It is time to enact laws and strengthen policies that ensure pay equity regardless of gender, race or ethnicity.
