Demand Mayor Adams Fully Fund NYC Schools

NYC Mayor Eric Adams

New York City just passed a budget championed by Mayor Eric Adams that cuts funding to more than 1,000 public schools—meaning most will face teacher layoffs and program termination. Public school teachers and administrators are the heart and soul of our education system and care for our children. Divesting in NYC schools means divesting in the 65% of students who are Black and brown.

We can’t allow Adams to defund NYC schools and leave primarily children of color—and low-income students and students with disabilities—to pay the price. These cuts must not stand.

All students deserve a high-quality education, sufficient resources in order to succeed, and a supportive and nurturing environment where they can grow emotionally, mentally and culturally. Unfortunately, recent cuts to the NYC Public School system will hurt teachers, administrators and students alike.

The $215 million in cuts to the NYC education system passed in the budget will actively create less safe and supportive environments for our students. It will mean less teachers, larger class sizes and fewer arts and extracurricular programs that build and enrich our children.

Divesting in NYC schools means divesting in the 65% of students who are Black and brown, divesting in low-income students and divesting in students with disabilities.

That's immoral and wholly unacceptable.

Mayor Adams, it's not too late. Fully fund NYC Public Schools today!
