Demand the Brooklyn Commons Publicly Oppose Bigotry in All Forms

Melissa Ennen & The Brooklyn Commons

Christopher Bollyn planned to tour the nation’s progressive venues to use the cover of “9/11 Truth” to spread his brand of antisemitism. As activists began to shed light on his intentions, progressive spaces from Busboys & Poets to various churches began to cancel his events. One space stood out as a defender of Bollyn: The Brooklyn Commons and its owner Melissa Ennen.

The Brooklyn Commons has quietly removed their progressive mission statement from their website in response to public pushback of their event and has doubled down on hosting him. Despite the fact that this hateful event will happen, we will continue to work to ensure that the Commons can be a home for progressive New Yorkers.

We call on The Brooklyn Commons to publicly reintroduce their mission statement – and include explicit language stating that racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism, Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry will not be hosted at this progressive venue again.
