Democratic Public Education for All
Indianapolis Leaders
***Sign below to let our decision-makers know to keep their HANDS OFF our communities' democratic public school boards!***
The Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA) is an appointed body not subject to Open Door Laws. While pretending to be open to the public in performative monthly meetings, in their real closed-door meetings, the ILEA could "recommend" the destruction of the democratically-elected IPS School Board and replace it with appointees, potentially charterizing all schools in the system.
This is taxation without representation. It is a bald-faced power grab. It is the privatization of our public services for personal gain, instead of actually fighting for all students. It is certainly not “choice.”
And, it won’t just be IPS: It will be the model for how public education gets further dismantled piece by piece. The only winners in that system will be the private special interests and the politicians who serve them.
We, the undersigned, call on political leaders in Indianapolis - Mayor Hogsett, city councillors, school board members of IPS and townships schools, and ILEA members to unite behind this simple message:
Our children and communities deserve their choice of a fully democratic school board that serves and advocates for all of them.
No matter the fancy marketing, the astroturfed moneyed organizing, the use of the language of freedom to justify taking away democratic choices; we will not allow public education to be dismantled by cynical climbers working with an authoritarian state party.
We demand fully democratic education for all.
