Denounce Republicans Attacks on Public Education
Republican Legislators
Republicans are not being shy about their attempts to significantly cut — if not fully eliminate — spending on K-12 public education.
In a new spending bill, Republicans are pursuing cuts to the Department of Education of $11 billion for the 2025 school year, 14% below 2024 levels. These cuts would have a major impact on all public schools, particularly Title 1 Grants that assist low-income families, which could see as much as $5 billion in cuts.

The bill would cut mental health support in schools, funding for English Language Acquisition, teacher training opportunities, as well as target programs aimed at helping students access higher education.
“Republicans are in the midst of a full-scale attempt to eliminate public education that makes the American Dream possible,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro. She added that the proposal gashes “support for children in K-12 elementary schools, threatening the future of an entire generation.”
Democrats are working to fight back and protect our students, but they need our help to keep the pressure on.
