Supporting Divestment at Northeastern

This petition will demonstrate student support of divestment from fossil fuels to the Northeastern administration. We also are showing support to SGA to pass legislation reaffirming the Divestment Referendum that was passed in 2014 and still hasn’t been acted on by Northeastern.

We demand that Northeastern divests their General Endowment Pool from fossil fuels, given their claims of being a world leader in sustainability. Student support for divestment from fossil fuels has been demonstrated for more than ten years and time is up. Northeastern needs to show their commitment to environmental justice and practice what they preach.

In order to do this, we want Northeastern to ensure that within five years none of their directly held or commingled assets include holdings in fossil fuel public equities and corporate bonds.

Without a doubt, the climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time. Scientists tell us that we have unbelievable amounts of work to do - in very little time. Yet we're given empty promises and our urgency is trivialized. We need to tackle this crisis head on, and we must work together before it's too late.
