Don't blow up the Senate by trying to jam Merrick Garland through. Our constitutional republic requires both parties to work within established norms, or at least within spitting distance of them. If that fully breaks down, it's hard to put back together again. And with an authoritarian headed for the White House, norms are all we have left. If Democrats start breaking the spirit of the rules in such a flagrant way, it will be harder for them to complain when Trump starts ignoring rules and norms that are supposed to apply to him.
