Draft Lisa Beasley to head the Second City

Andrew Alexander, former CEO; Darcy Stuart; Steve Johnston; Alison Riley; Joe Ruffner; Jen Hoyt; Anthony Leblanc;

With Andrew Alexander stepping down from Second City, we the people of the city of Chicago and comedy enthisiasts and anti-racists all over the world nominate Lisa Beasley, a Second City professional artist alum, comedian, entrepreneur, and producer to replace Mr. Alexander as leader of the Second City.

As a leading professional artist who endured the institutional racism Mr. Alexander and other alum have testified to, and as a leader in providing professional and artistic opportunities for emerging leaders and youth, Lisa has the artistic lens, comedic talent, pedagogical precision, business acumen, and cultural analysis to lead the Second City theater out of this dark time and into an era of laughter that uplifts justice for all.

In order to make Black Lives Matter at the Second City, Lisa has informally committed to action items on her twitter account including https://twitter.com/lisabexperience : “Once hailed the Harvard of Comedy, the venue now self-proclaims itself as the HBCU [Historically Black College/University] of Funny”

I am writing to you to insist you utilize your power as a decision maker at Second City to select community leader and Second City alum Ms. Lisa Beasley as Mr. Alexander's replacement. No other candidate will bring about the healing and revitalize the Second City as an institution in the era where Black Lives Matter.
