I ask you to pass legislation to eliminate Iowa’s civil statute of limitations to give victims of child sexual abuse the time they need to seek justice from their abusers and the institutions that shield them.

Iowa’s civil statute of limitations laws are ranked “worst in the nation” when it comes to protecting children from serial child rapists.

In Iowa, unlike most states, victims of child sexual abuse quickly lose the right to sue for damages from abusers and the institutions that failed to protect them.

This allows predators to escape the consequences of their abuse and continue victimizing more children.

Iowa can do better. In 17 states, child victims NEVER lose the right to have their day in court. Other states have “lookback windows;” Iowa does not.

Make 2022 the year Iowa kids get the justice they deserve by passing laws to expose and punish child sex abusers and the institutions that fail to protect them.
