Fair Redistricting for Rhode Island

RI State Legislators

S 0537/H 5868 create a fairer redistricting process:

● Requires that a majority of the public members of the commission be unaffiliated with a political party.

● Prohibits lobbyists, party officials, and others with a conflict of interest from serving as public members.

● Requires the redistricting commission to allow the public to submit their own maps and makes the data for any commission maps publicly available upon their release.

● Sets minimum standards for the number of public meetings the commission must hold and the amount of time the public has to provide the commission with feedback.

Those are just some of the changes in S 0537/H 5868 (read more here) Now is the time to make an impact on the upcoming redistricting process.
