#FairPayNow for Female AFL Players

Gillon McLachlan

The creation of a national women’s football league is a long-awaited step from the AFL in acknowledging the special role women play in Australia’s largest sporting code. But the AFL’s pay proposal for female footy players is terrible.

$5,000 for five months work, no boots and no health insurance is not enough to give players the space to excel and make the new league as good as it can be.

AFL CEO Gil McLachlan has the money and power to pay female football players better. Doing so will show the community that the code is committed to treating women with respect.

Sign our letter to AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan asking him to commit to #FairPayNow.

It's not complicated, women must be paid a fair wage for the hours they train and play.

Dear Mr McLachlan,

The creation of a national women’s football league is a long-awaited step from the AFL in acknowledging the special role women play in Australia’s largest sporting code. It is a move that the community has celebrated.

However, your pay proposal for the women who will play in the AFL's league is terrible. $5,000 for five months of work, no boots or health insurance provided, is not enough to give these female players the space to excel and make the new league as good as it can be.

But it's not just about investing into the women's league, it's also about what's fair for women. As the CEO of a national organisation with a huge community following, Gillon, you need to commit to fair pay for the women who work and play for the AFL. It's not complicated, women must be paid a fair wage for the hours they train and play.

We look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,

"Fiona Fair-Pay" and the community of footy fans who want #FairPayNow for female AFL players.
