Florida needs an independent redistricting commission

Florida Legislature

UPDATE 3/14/16:

The Florida legislature adjourned last week WITHOUT taking action on an independent redistricting commission. They have failed the people of Florida yet again.

Over 11 million of our taxpayer dollars (and counting!) spent on the Florida redistricting disaster.

The Supreme Court found the GOP-led legislature designed the Congressional districts illegally. Then the legislature held a special session, wasted EVEN MORE money and time, and failed AGAIN to do their jobs and come up with a solution for the Congressional districts. Now the courts have to take over.

For the Senate districts, they admitted to gerrymandering, and the legislature held ANOTHER special session. This also was a complete waste of time and money, and the courts will be taking over as well.

The legislature has proven they cannot do this job, so they should pass a law enabling an independent citizen's commission in 2016 to do it for them and Governor Scott should sign it.

We need an independent commission to draw legislative districts, not legislators.

Two failed special sessions, millions of taxpayer dollars wasted, and the courts will have to decide our Congressional and Senate districts anyways. Legislators cannot be trusted to do this job right. We need an independent commission for Florida, like California or Arizona.
