Fort Lauderdale: Let Arnold Abbott Feed Homeless Folks
Mayor and City Commision of Fort Lauderdale, Florida
We demand that the Mayor and City Commission of Fort Lauderdale, Florida repeal the city's ludicrous ordinance against feeding homeless people outside. That's where they happen to live... duh!
Arnold Abbott has led teams of volunteers in serving homeless folks in Fort Lauderdale for more than 20 years.
Recently, the city passed a law that outlaws feeding the homeless in public. So when Arnold began serving food as he regularly does, the Fort Lauderdale police took him into custody and charged him with a violation of the new law. He was cited alongside two other members of the local faith community.
“One of the police officers came over and said ‘Drop that plate right now,’ as if I was carrying a weapon,” Mr Abbott told local news agency KHON2. Unreal.
Fort Lauderdale: Feeding the homeless is NOT a crime.
