Free Martin Diaz
Governor Bob Ferguson

On Tuesday, April 29th, Spokane community member Martin Diaz was brutally assaulted and violently detained by Border Patrol agents without a warrant in his own backyard. Martin, who had his Green Card petition approved on April 11th, was brutally dragged away from his wife Kendall who is a US citizen. Martin is now facing bogus charges of assaulting a Federal Officer despite the fact that he was the one being assaulted by Border Patrol. Security footage from his home clearly shows that Martin was the victim. Martin faces decades in jail if convicted or deportation. We demand the immediate release of Martin Diaz and an end to these illegal raids on our immigrant families.
Martin Diaz came to the United States with his parents when he was a toddler, before he was even two years old. He has lived here his entire life. He married his wife, Kendall in 2018. They have spent almost $100,000 to work on getting his legal citizenship. This year they filed an I-130 form, which grants citizenship to the spouse of a US Citizen. This application was accepted. They received a letter in the mail shortly after requesting his application for his visa. On February 1, ICE agents pretended to drive into Kendall's car on their property in an attempt to lure Martin out to abduct him.
In college, Martin was the president of the Latin American Student Organization at his school. He was a member of the Multicultural Leadership Institute, where he mentored youth at Shaw Middle School, North Central & Rogers High Schools. In more recent times, Martin donates his time, money, and the use of his property to support individuals working on sobriety.
Martin is a dedicated, hardworking individual and a cherished member of the Spokane community. We demand his freedom and an end to these brutal deportation raids!

I am writing to you as a concerned Washington resident to urge your immediate intervention in the case of Mr. Martin Diaz. His continued detention is not only unjust but also poses a serious threat to his well being and that of his family.

Mr. Diaz is a critical member of the Spokane community, contributing positively through his career in construction, his mentorship of at-risk youth, and through volunteering with those working towards sobriety. He does not pose a threat to public safety. His detention is unnecessary, harmful, and inconsistent with the values we uphold in our state.
The impact of Mr. Diaz’s detention extends beyond his own hardship. His family is suffering due to his absence, emotionally and financially.
I respectfully request that your office take all necessary steps to advocate for the release of Mr. Diaz and to review the circumstances surrounding his detention. His release would not only serve justice but would also reaffirm our commitment to humane and fair immigration policies.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I am hopeful that you will act swiftly in support of Mr. Diaz and others facing unjust detention.
