Abortion is healthcare and a human right. The overturning of Roe v Wade, followed by Georgia's 6-week ban on abortion, represents an anti-democratic assault on reproductive rights for working people across the state. It is the duty of our city officials to lessen the immense burdens that come with seeking abortion care in our region.

We are calling on you to:

1) Renew the City Abortion Fund

Last year, Atlanta City Council signed legislation to allocate $300,000 of city funds to support the efforts of Access Reproductive Care (ARC) Southeast​, a nonprofit that provides funding assistance for costs associated with abortion, including travel and childcare costs. Working people in Atlanta and across the Southeast are still struggling to access reproductive care because of medically unnecessary and harmful abortion restrictions, therefore the fund must be renewed.

2) Expand funding from a $300,000 one-time donation to a $600,000 annual budget item

As accessing abortion care remains difficult and prohibitively expensive for many Atlantans, a one-time donation of $300,000 to ARC Southeast is simply not enough. Mayor Dickens, along with Atlanta City Council, must double the amount of money set aside for the City Abortion Fund last year and commit to making it a recurring annual budget item.

3) Pay for the City Abortion Fund by cutting funds to Cop City and the police budget

Over $235 million went toward policing last year, making it the largest single portion of the Atlanta city budget. Mayor Dickens and the City Council must cut the massive police budget, including any and all financial support for Cop City, and reallocate that money to renew and expand the City Abortion Fund, as well as invest in better housing, transit, and education for all Atlantans.
