WHY?

Following the recent tragic incident, with swimmers and people getting into difficulty in the water at Rockley Point beach, Hamworthy and many other near misses over the years, we’re calling on BCP Council, Haven Holidays & RNLI to provide a lifeguard service at Rockley Point beach during the summer months, particularly the school holidays and weekends.

Many people have come forward saying they were unaware of the dangers of this stretch of water, they don’t know what to look out for with riptides and currents and that they would not know what to do if they got caught in one. With a large number of people using the Rockley Point beach, not being local, and many coming from areas of the UK with no sea or water nearby, it is absolutely vital that safety measures are put in place. Even locals have said they too, were unaware of the dangers of this particularly bad stretch of the harbour and what to do if they were caught out.

Haven Holidays uses the Rockley Point beach as one of the marketing points for the park and one of Haven Holidays' two partners is the RNLI Lifeboats. Haven Holidays alongside BCP Council have a responsibility to protect both tourists and local residents from this dangerous stretch – nobody else should have to go through this. As the RNLI is a charity, providing a lifesaving service, they rely heavily on funding to provide a lifeguard service. With a properly lifeguarded beach and education, lives can and will be saved at Rockley Point.

WHAT WE'RE CALLING FOR

We’re therefore calling on Haven Holidays, BCP Council & RNLI to come together to provide a lifeguard service at Rockley Point during the summer period. BCP Council & Haven Holidays have access to funding, which can help support RNLI as a charity, to provide this service.
