Help us Redraw RI!: Stop Gerrymandering in Rhode Island

RI State Legislators

Common Cause Rhode Island's number one priority is to ensure that our state has an open, ethical, accountable, and effective government, that is why ending the practice of incumbent politicians picking their voters is important to us.

Elections are supposed to represent the will of the people, not politicians. Unfortunately, some partisan lawmakers manipulate voting maps to keep themselves and their party in power. With a successful campaign we will reform the rules to create a fair system, so our local government is of, by, and for the people.

The Redraw RI campaign will achieve this by putting an amendment to the Rhode Island Constitution on the ballot to create a 15-person Independent Redistricting Commission to draw legislative districts after each census.

This commission was modeled after a successful effort in California and we believe that the Ocean State will have a similar victory.

It is time for Rhode Island to have fair representation throughout the districts. Lets encourage our legislators to make this change!

Here in Rhode Island, our elections should represent the will of the people, not of self-interested politicians. Rhode Island should have fair electoral maps, but right now, partisan lawmakers are manipulating our electoral maps to protect their own political power. We must end practices like gerrymandering to create a democracy where everyone's voice is heard and every vote matters.
