Housing Courts Must Change!
Governor Cuomo and Chief Judge DiFiore

The state is planning to reopen housing courts on Monday, June 22. This is outrageous. Housing courts cannot open. They are unsafe for the court workers and for the many thousands of mostly Black and Brown New Yorkers, who will soon be forced to go to court, risking their health to save their homes. We cannot allow more New Yorkers to die or to be made homeless in the middle of a pandemic.
Housing Court has never been just--it’s time to deeply reckon with how we’ve let our courts facilitate the displacement of tenants in the name of profit for generations.
Housing Courts must change before they reopen! We are calling on the Governor, Judge DiFiore and NYC City Council to:
Extend the Universal Eviction Moratorium
Ensure Everyone Facing Eviction Has and Knows About the Right to Counsel
Slow Down Eviction Cases
Hold Landlords Accountable
Prioritize Health, Safety, and Accessibility
For more on our demands, go here.
By signing this pledge I am signing on to support these demands, to join in the fight to stop housing court from reopening and to fight evictions!

We can't allow housing courts to open. It will lead to mass evictions, displacement and the spread of the coronavirus. We have laid out a pathway to change housing courts--housing courts MUST remain closed until our key demands are met. We're calling on you to lead.
