Update: On August 9, a court in Belarus formally dissolved our sister organization, PEN Belarus.

In July, the Ministry of Justice in Belarus sent a letter indicating they are seeking to liquidate our sister organization PEN Belarus, which for years has supported writers and free expression in the country. It comes as the country's authoritarian leader Aleksandr Lukashenka continues to crack down on all those who dissent.

Show our colleagues and friends at PEN Belarus that they are not alone—and that we rally to support the freedom to write wherever and whenever it comes under threat.

Today we rally in solidarity with you, the writers of PEN Belarus, as well as all those in Belarus crying out for freedom.

We know that you all have become targets because the regime is afraid—afraid that truth tellers like you all are a threat to its ruthless hold on power. Lukashenka may think he can silence you. But he's wrong. Your stories echo out across the world, and we will do everything in our power to ensure your voices are heard and your rights are vindicated.

We also join you in the call to free all Belarusian prisoners of conscience, including PEN Belarus members Aliaksandr Fiaduta, Ales Bialiatski, and Yuliya Charniauskaya.
