Dear House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer,

We stand in witness, in horror alongside all of you, to the violence unleashed in our beloved capital, Washington, DC, and in state capitals across the country by Donald Trump and aided by the many Republicans complicit through their silence and through their own attacks on the will of the American people as expressed in the November election.

This is nothing less than an attack on our country, on our people, brought on by a president who refuses to accept that millions of us turned out to stand with and for each other and elect Joe Biden by overwhelming margins. This is a traitorous act of sedition: an angry mob of armed white vigilantes inside our Capitol, threatening our government. This is happening because of the encouragement of some Republicans who spread lies about this election, and the refusal of others to combat those lies, in order to undermine the will of the people and desperately attempt to hold on to power they clearly do not deserve. Every Republican responsible, from the president to Senators and House Members to state legislators, who fed, fueled and fomented these attacks must be removed or resign.

We the people have pulled through everything that’s been done to divide, derail and dishonor our most basic rights. We have stood strong in the midst of unrelenting attempts to discredit and silence Black, Indigenous, immigrant and other communities of color. Together, we will make America a place of liberty and justice for all.

We are calling on both of you to use your powers and act immediately to impeach and remove President Trump. By inciting a violent attack on the Capitol as part of a sustained and coordinated attempt to overturn the result of a free and fair election, the president has threatened our form of government and has made clear that he is unfit to serve the remainder of his term and is an imminent danger to our country. Once removed, Trump should be banned from holding federal office and prosecuted for his crimes. Additionally, members of the Sedition Caucus need, at a minimum, to be censured and removed from all committee assignments. Some of them should be removed from the House and Senate.
