Restore Federal Funding and Create a Fair Tax System
Michigan Congressional Delegation
Michiganders work hard to keep our communities running and provide for ourselves and our families. And, the vital community services that our middle and working class families, neighborhoods, and communities need to thrive (like elder and child care, K–12 education, the maintenance of roads & bridges, transportation, and public health & safety) are funded by state and federal tax revenues
However, wealthy corporations are now trying to advance another 2017-style Trump billionaire tax stealing spree. For a second time, these wealthy billionaires are trying to avoid paying what they owe and underfunding the things we rely on to thrive and create a prosperous future. Furthermore, wealthy billionaires are executing their plan of holding up funding for vital services, which is creating chaos and uncertainty that undermines our ability to fund and maintain our communities.
We invite you to join our petition signed by twenty organizations (Fund MI Future, 482 Forward, AFT Michigan, Clean Water Action, Detroit Action, Detroit Disability Power, Emgage Michigan, Grand Rapids Area Tenants Union, Michigan Education Justice Coalition, Michigan League for Public Policy, Oakland Forward, Progress Michigan, Resource Generation, Rising Voices, Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, SiX Action, Transportation Riders United, United for Respect, Up North Advocacy, and the Working Families Party) urging the Michigan Congressional delegation to opposes the billionaire giveaway of our tax dollars and the freezing of federal funds. This benefits the wealthy and large corporations at the expense of our communities. Together, we can build the future we need, and fund our communities.

Dear Michigan Senators and Representatives,
Congratulations on your election to the 119th Congress. As the incoming Administration prioritizes extending the 2017 Trump tax law (TCJA), we urge you to address long-standing tax code inequities and raise revenue to meet critical obligations.
Michiganders work hard and expect Congress to prioritize families over giving the wealthy and corporations the ability to not pay what they owe in taxes. The 2017 tax law failed: it widened inequality, added $2 trillion to the deficit, and didn’t deliver promised wage growth or job creation. Extending these cuts would increase deficits by $7.5 trillion over 10 years, benefiting the richest while neglecting the majority.
In Michigan, underfunding public services has hurt our communities while wealthy corporations paid less. Residents overwhelmingly support fair taxation and funding vital services. Congress has a rare chance to correct tax code inequities and build an economy that works for all Americans. We urge you to seize this moment for tax justice for all.
