Let's demand rapid testing at every Beaumont Unified school site free!

Superintendent Mays Kakish and the Beaumont Unified School District Board Members: Susie Lara, Steven Hovey, David Sanchez, Janelle Poulter, and Shawn Mitchell.

The Beaumont Unified School District is being pressured not to comply with basic safety precautions that slow the transmission of COVID-19. It’s time for us to show the district that we are watching and will not allow them to put our community at risk.

The Education Code of California §49403 states that “… the governing board of a school district shall cooperate with the local health officer in measures necessary for the prevention and control of communicable diseases in school age children.” It is imperative to protect, not only our children, but teachers, community members, and healthcare providers by making sure the guidelines set forth by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are implemented within the Beaumont Unified School District.

We, the undersigned parents and community members, urge you to:

Minimize and reduce the risk of the spread of Covid-19 by offering rapid (antigen) testing at every school site free of cost for students and teachers. Rapid testing is a critical tool that provides the following benefits:

- Quick results! Some rapid tests offer results in 15-20 minutes.
- Easy to perform almost anywhere with a non-invasive nose swab.
- Onsite testing
- Lower cost than PCR testing.
- Good at confirming suspected COVID infections in people who are already showing symptoms.

By following science-based, public health recommendations in our schools, we can slow the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. Beaumont will have a stronger future by investing in our children’s health and safety now. Thank you for your work and service during this global crisis.
