Build a Seattle That Works for the Many, Not Just the Few

Developer Lake Union Partners

The skyrocketing cost of housing is already driving working people out of the Central District, the historic center of Seattle’s African American community. Now a developer wants to bring an expensive, anti-worker grocery chain (New Seasons) to 23rd and Union, encouraging even further displacement. Like many neighborhoods around Seattle, the Central District needs affordable housing, affordable groceries and good jobs -- not more developments aimed at serving the wealthy few. Help build a Seattle that works for the many not, just the few. Learn more at Good Jobs Coalition.

Lake Union Partners' development at the northwest corner of 23rd & Union should encourage affordable, community-friendly businesses that treat workers with fairness and respect.

We believe New Seasons is the wrong choice for Seattle’s Central District because:

• New Seasons is an expensive grocery store chain that will be unaffordable to the average Central District resident.

• New Seasons treats workers unfairly and hires union busting consultants who suppress workers’ voices.

• New Seasons stores tend to drive up rents and home prices in surrounding neighborhoods.

• New Seasons’ growth will profit an anti-LGBTQ, anti-worker investor, the Murdock Trust.
