Lower The Voting Age In Massachusetts!

Massachusetts legislators

We the constituents of Massachusetts,

Are calling for change, because democracy works best when the people are fully represented. We demand the voting age to be lowered to 16 in the commonwealth. One of the founding principles of this country and its democracy is “No taxation without representation.”  Upon turning sixteen the people of Massachusetts have the right to drive, to be employed, to drop out of high school, along with many other rights and responsibilities. A 16-year-old can have a job and file taxes, but they don’t have the right to vote. They can consent to medical treatment, get married, purchase premium bonds and even pilot a glider but still can’t vote. This must change.

Massachusetts is a national pillar in setting innovative standards for the future, and we need to be a leader in making stronger democracy within our nation. Sign this petition to support the change of minimum voting age to 16!
