Make Polluters Pay: Tell Your Governor and State Attorney General to Hold Big Oil Accountable for their Climate Crimes
United States Governors and State Attorneys General
Big Oil has known for decades that their pollution was harming human health and leading to catastrophic climate change. But instead of warning the public, they embarked on a massive disinformation campaign, spending billions of dollars to spread climate denial and block any attempts to address the crisis.
Now, our communities are paying the price. Our neighbors are losing their homes, and sometimes even their lives, to fires, floods, and extreme heat. Cities and states are spending billions to respond to non stop climate disasters and extreme weather events. But instead of paying their fair share for the damage they’ve caused, fossil fuel companies continue to rake in massive profits at our expense.
It’s time to make polluters pay for the damage they’ve done. There’s now a growing global effort to use our legal process to hold Big Oil accountable for their climate disinformation and the damage they’re doing.
Together, we can build a global movement that supports superfund legislation, climate lawsuits, and other mechanisms to hold Big Oil accountable. These actions aren’t a solution to the climate crisis – we need governments to do their part – but they’re a powerful tool for us to finally hold this industry accountable. Join us.

I strongly support the climate superfund bills and lawsuits that are working to hold Big Oil accountable for climate damages. Oil companies like Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and BP knew as early as the 1970s that their product was destroying our climate. But instead of warning the public, they lied about the problem and spent millions to block action to address it. In those years, we lost valuable time to cut pollution and invest in solutions.
Because of Big Oil’s deception – heat waves, drought, intense storms, floods and wildfires are costing everyday people their livelihoods. Jobs are being lost, businesses are closing, and homes are being destroyed. Everyday Americans are being forced to pay the price for polluters’ greed and deception.
Over the last several years, Big Oil has made billions in profits polluting our communities. Meanwhile, climate damages cost our states just as much. It’s time to make polluters pay their fair share for climate damages. I encourage you to support holding Big Oil accountable on behalf of our state and work with other Attorneys General to make polluters pay for the damage they’ve done.
